How do Prescriptions and Electronic Prescriptions work?
If you are only in Australia for a short period of time then paper prescripts are often the most efficient option and can be provided in person or sent to the pharmacy of your choice.
Alternatively a national system for electronic prescriptions are now available in Australia, which is a convenient and easy system with scripts sent to you via text message or email. To be able to access electronic scripts you need to have an Australian government issued Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI) number. If you have a Medicare card (of any colour) your IHI number is linked to the card. By providing your Medicare card number we will be able to link the numbers using our clinical records software instantly.
You are able to apply for an IHI even if you do not qualify for Medicare and are visiting Australia temporarily. If you’re concerned about using your real name, you can use a different name or pseudonym to register for an IHI. Information on how to apply is below;
https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/how-to-get-individual-healthcare-identifier
Electronic prescriptions are generated by the doctor using your IHI and instantly uploaded to the national eRx Script Exchange. The system provides you with a token either via email or SMS to take into the pharmacy of your choice, or you can email the token to a pharmacy postage service. The pharmacy will enter this encrypted token into their dispensing software to obtain your prescription for dispensing.
If you are wanting LMCGC to organise delivery of medications we can arrange delivery of either paper or electronic scripts to local pharmacies as needed.
Are Electronic Prescriptions secure?
Only LMCGC doctors and the pharmacist can see your information. Nobody else, including the government, or any other third party can see your information. All patient and script information is locked with three levels of encryption before it leaves the doctor’s computer and can only be opened when it arrives at the pharmacy using an authorised Prescription Dispensing System.
Can my medication be delivered?
Yes, we have partnered with selected pharmacies for clients to enable delivery of medications, this is billed separately by the pharmacy, and costs vary depending on the medication. Alternatively scripts can be sent to a pharmacy of your choosing.
Do you prescribe restricted medications or medications of addiction?
Yes, but this must be done in consultation with your regular treating physician. If you require scripts for restricted medications while visiting Australia, this can be provided only after an LMCGC doctor has spoken directly with your usual doctor and received appropriate documentation.
We are committed to safe prescribing and to ensuring that there is only one treating doctor responsible for having visibility of and managing restricted medications at any time, which would be your usual home physician. However we do understand the difficulty in accessing usual medications while visiting from overseas.
Restricted medications include opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants, and other controlled substances. Examples include:
Opioid pain medications such as oxycodone (Endone, OxyContin, Percocet), morphine (MS Contin, Kapanol), hydromorphone (Dilaudid), buprenorphine (Suboxone, Subutex), tramadol (Tramal, Ultram).
Benzodiazepines such as diazepam (Valium), lorazepam (Ativan), alprazolam (Xanax), clonazepam (Klonopin), temazepam (Restoril, Normison).
Stimulant medications for ADHD such as dexamfetamine (Dexedrine), lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse, Elvanse), and methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta).
Other sedative or dependency-risk medications, including zopiclone (Imovane, Zimovane) and zolpidem (Stilnox, Ambien).
Are refunds available?
Full refunds are available for appointments that are cancelled at least 48 hours before the appointment time. To cancel an appointment utilise the links in the booking email or by emailing luminary@lmcgc.com.au If you have cancelled your appointment and have not received your refund within 14 days, please get in contact.
Confidentiality is important to me. Is the doctor able to sign a Confidentiality Agreement (CA) or Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA)?
At Luminary Medical Concierge, confidentiality and discretion are of the utmost importance and we go to great lengths to ensure client privacy.
In Australia all doctors have a duty of confidentiality which means they must protect a patient's personal health information. Doctors have a legal and ethical obligation to keep your information private. It will not be shared without your consent, except in specific circumstances such as when there is a serious risk to you or another person, or where required by law.
If it is clinically necessary to share your medical information with other health professionals, your consent will always be sought and you will be involved in the process.
Luminary Medical Concierge doctors are happy to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) or Confidentiality Agreements (CAs) if required, but they must still comply with legal, ethical, and medical documentation standards. This ensures your care remains both private and clinically accountable.
We are committed to data privacy and security, with the highest level of protection in place for your electronic health records. Booking information is managed securely through Setmore Health, and our clinical records software meets ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 9001, and complies with the Australian Privacy Act, GDPR (EU), and HIPAA (US) standards, with end-to-end encryption.
